Gillian was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, although life and work has taken her across the region Passionate about people in general and education in particular, Gillian originally trained as a teacher. She has continued to work in this sector, moving from the traditional classroom, into universities, community education initiatives, and the NGO space. An ardent believer in opening access to educational and development opportunities, particularly in rural areas, Gillian founded the Malealea Development Trust, an NGO that promotes a range of education, socio-economic and environment programmes for people in rural Lesotho. Gillian joined the staff of Canon Collins Trust in 2011, and is using the opportunity to continue her commitment to enabling access to education, and strengthening a community of change agents across the region."
